Colophon

I acknowledge that I live on the unceded lands of the Algonquin Anishinaabe nation.

To keep my skills up-to-date and for other technical reasons, I decided to hand-make this web site. It's harder than using an online tool but I'm happy about it.

I also write and translate the content by hand without the use of "generative AI". There might be typos and other errors because I am a flawed human.

Technology

This site is a static site hand coded by me and built with Eleventy from a mix of Markdown and HTML documents. The site is hosted by Hawk Host from their datacenter in Toronto, Canada. It is built automatically from a script triggered by a GitHub web hook.

Template

The template is inspired by the Gatsby Starter Blog which was the starting point for the previous version of this site. The previous version of the site I had written using another static site generation tool called Gatsby.

The template had been modified to use simple CSS styling and no client-side Javascript.

The template uses the Montserrat typeface for headings and Merriweather for the body text. The fonts are sourced directly from the Google Fonts service.

Images and Media

All the images and media are pre-processed and displayed using a technique called responsive images which will serve smaller images to smaller devices or devices with lower resolution.

This improves the performance of the site and saves the end-user some bandwidth by not downloading full-resolution images if they are on a mobile device.

Most of the images on the site are mine. For the images that are not mine, I tried to only use images according to their respective licences. Clicking on the images should link the source directly.
