Hi there!
My name is Francis Beaudet. I am a designer currently enjoying a break from the world of big tech.
I worked for Illumina on streamlining the analysis of genomics data for bioinformaticians and clinicians alike. Before that, I worked for Varian Medical Systems where I am working on chemotherapy treatment management systems. I was a designer at Qlik and before that, I worked for many years in an agency where I designed many systems, mostly focused on healthcare.
I was not always a designer. I started my career as a programmer. This gives me a unique perspective on problems and a unique combination of technical software engineering skill and User Centered Design knowledge.
I took a twisty road to get to where I’ve always wanted to go. Always interested in architecture and design — I took a left turn when I was offered a job as a software architect. I did that for years, designing and coding some amazing applications before I got the chance to take a hard right back into what I should have done in the first place.
Today, I use my skills to become the voice of the user. I strive to make more useful, desirable software for real people to use. I bring something a bit different to the table. Because of the years I spent in software architecture, I speak (and listen to) every stakeholder’s language so their voices are heard. Designs that navigate the waters between software architecture and business requirements is where I am strongest. When we’re all on the same page, that’s when we make the products that are successful.
