This website is a static site that is generated by a tool called Eleventy from a mix of Markdown and HTML documents.

This makes the site simple to maintain, more secure, and significantly faster for the end-user.

Template #

The template is inspired by the Gatsby Starter Blog which was the starting point for the previous version of this site. The previous version of the site I had written using another static site generation tool called Gatsby.

The template had been modified to use simple CSS styling and no client-side Javascript.

The template uses the Montserrat typeface for headings and Merriweather for the body text. The fonts are sourced directly from the Google Fonts service.

Images and Media #

All the images and media are pre-processed and displayed using a technique called responsive images which will serve smaller images to smaller devices or devices with lower resolution.

This improves the performance of the site and saves the end-user some bandwidth by not downloading full-resolution images if they are on a mobile device.
